Fetch as Google is the best way to have google instantaneously reflect the changes you make on a webpage in the index.
Hey guys, my name’s Yeshmin from Weboptimizers. Today I’m going to talk you through how to better understand and use Fetch as Google to help your website rank better organically. So first things first, if you’re new to SEO or online marketing and you don’t yet have your site yet registered with Google Web Master Tools, you will want to do that now. Just go to Google.com/WebMasters and verify your site. Once inside, you’ll find a wealth of information to help you see how your site is fairing in Google’s eyes. So much of this information is critical to getting Google traffic.
From here, we’re going to run a Fetch in five easy steps. We’re gonna use our website, Weboptimizers.com.au. Now step one, we’re on the Google search consult page and on the left-hand side, you see you’ve got all these different little things you can look into. We’re just going to hit on crawl and Fetch as Google, which will bring us to the page we’re on now. Step two, optionally choose a type of Googlebot you wish to perform the search as. So over here you can see we’ve got two options, we’ve got desktop and mobile.
So we’re going to run the Fetch for our desktop. Then click either Fetch or Fetch and Render. Fetch will let you see how Google views your code and fetch and render will do the same thing plus give you a small visual representation of what Google sees. For now, let’s fetch and render so we can explore visually. This can take a moment, but what you’re looking for is a status of complete.
Step number four, the request will be added to the Fetch history table with its status. As you can see, ours is partial. This usually means that you’ve manually blocked content from your site or Google cannot access something. We can now hover and click over the row to take a closer look and right there, we have side by side to the left how Google sees the page and to the right, how a visitor might see your page. Google is, of course, looking for ticks, images, but also content, things it can add to a search index. Specific layout considerations are not affected here. So don’t worry if your layout and font selection is looking a little bit strange.
Requesting indexing is great if we’ve made an update to our site or specific page and we want to let Google know right away. So if we’ve updated our site and we’ve done a Fetch on our homepage, crawl our URL, and its direct links mean Google will links from your homepage and crawling those pages too. Now both requests have limited submissions inside a 30 day period. So don’t worry about re-indexing obsessively every time you fix punctuation or update a font colour and that’s it. So we have Fetch and Render, which gives us information regarding Google’s access to our website and we have request indexing, asking Google to re-crawl and re-index our URL and that’s how you Fetch as Google.
